"We have to have a better linkage between our acquisitions officers, or staff, and our operators," Col. Tim Trimailo, head of the Space Systems Command's Commercial Space Office, told Breaking Defense.
The reorganization of the JCO will involve two elements: setting up processes for JCO to provide commercial space monitoring data directly to operators and establishing an acquisition pathway for that data.
The five new CIC companies are BlackSky, Kratos, Leolabs, ICEYE and Telesat; Hawkeye 360 and Exoanalytic will join soon, a Space Force spokesperson told Breaking Defense today.
"I'm very confident that we will have our first CASR contracts by early of next year, targeting space awareness," said Col. Rich Kniseley, who is spearheading the Space Force's effort to create a Commercial Augmented Space Reserve.
One of the JCO's new missions will be gathering what the Space Force calls tactical surveillance, reconnaissance and tracking data from commercial remote sensing satellite operators, said JCO head Barbara Golf.
US Space Command's recently realigned and renamed Joint Commercial Operations cell is one example of successful joint operations, agreed the four European space leaders.
